Efthymios (Thymios) Nikolopoulos, Ph.D.
Thymios is Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rutgers University, New Brunswick. He received his Engineering Diploma from the Technical University of Crete, Greece, his M.Sc. degree from the University of Iowa, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Connecticut, U.S. He has also worked as a postdoc at the University of Padova, Italy. His expertise is in the modeling and monitoring of hydrometeorological and hydrologic extremes (extreme precipitation, floods, droughts, debris flows). His main research goal is to improve the understanding and predictability of hydrologic extremes and develop methods to mitigate their impacts.
He has authored/co-authored 70+ peer-reviewed publications and 8 book chapters in the areas of hydrometeorology, remote sensing of precipitation, flood hydrology and landslide/debris flow prediction. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hydrology and the recipient of the NASA Earth System Science Graduate Fellowship and the Marie Curie Postdoctoral fellowship.
Thymios enjoys playing chess, ping pong, and basketball and he is always interested in suggestions about good movies and music.
